ALn668 DRIVER CONSOLLE
English Version
The name ALn 668 comes from “Automotrice Leggera a nafta” (diesel-powered light railcar, type 6, with 68 seats).
The ALn 668 railcars were a series of light, diesel-powered rail vehicles built between 1956 and 1983 in three generations for Ferrovie dello Stato; they were finally withdrawn from regular service by Trenitalia in Veneto in June 2021.
For a long time, the ALn 668 was the standard internal-combustion railcar of the Italian State Railways (FS). The ALn 663 is entirely similar; while retaining the same mechanical components, it received a different classification solely due to its new interior layout, which reduces the number of seats from sixty-eight to sixty-three.
We saw them running along our rail lines for many years, before they were replaced by more modern and less polluting rolling stock such as the Minuetto (with ALn501/502 diesel engines).
Inside the exhibition, you can sit at the driver’s console and pretend to drive the legendary ALn668 along the tracks.
