ACOUSTIC ALARM
FS-type siren warning device
Primarily used in the context of safety on construction sites where particularly noisy equipment is in use. Used in activities on construction sites:
- Track interruption system on tracks adjacent to the one under work;
- Timed track clearance system;
- Track clearance regime on sighting.
These last two protection regimes (timed and on sighting) have been discontinued for safety reasons by decree of the ANSF (National Railway Safety Agency), now ANSFISA.
To provide some historical context, Article 12, paragraph 2, of the Instructions for Site Surveillance and Protection Services, 1963 edition, states:
The protection of work sites is based on the following fundamental elements:
- the adoption of organisational measures and the completion of checks and formalities […]
- the provision of warning signals at a distance and within the construction site using optical and acoustic devices of adequate effectiveness[…];
Paragraph 3: […] signals must be given using acoustic devices of a suitability commensurate with the characteristics and size of the site (horn, whistle, sirens, etc. […]
