In early November 1966, it rained incessantly, causing flooding and landslides. Roads and railways, along with their infrastructure, suffered extensive damage and were out of service for prolonged periods. On the Conegliano–Ponte nelle Alpi railway line, a landslide occurred near the bridge crossing the Piave between Cadola-Soccher station and Ponte nelle Alpi, specifically at km 37+550 (see arrow on the diagram).
