GREASE NIPPLES FOR LUBRIFICATING THE PULLEYS OF CABLE DRIVERS
English Version
Description: These tins were used by members of the I.S. (Safety Systems) teams during routine maintenance of the pulley-based transmission systems with steel cables, the gearboxes of the barriers and control boxes at remote level crossings and, above all, the signal transmission systems from the control stations.
In addition to a leather bag containing the tools required for maintenance, I.S. staff also carried vials of mineral oil for lubricating the pulleys through which the steel cables of the transmission systems run.
It is extremely important that the cable runs smoothly through the groove of the pulley to prevent the mechanism for closing the level crossing barriers and the warning and safety signals at stations from jamming.
The small oil can with a valve was the main tool for lubrication, followed by the medium-sized oil can, which was needed for replenishing the mineral oil.
