Description: Pocket watch with official serial number, 1976.
From the "REGULATIONS for uniform clothing and provisions concerning the provision of other items to personnel," Article 15, title "POCKET WATCHES," paragraph 1, states:
- for use, as inventory, by 1st class Chief Conductors, Chief Conductors, and agents employed as such on a continuous basis;
- for inventory, two watches for each Supervisor of the Section Head line for temporary use by the following Works Service agents:
- Agents assigned occasionally to special services (staffing of P.L., protection of work sites, escorting trolleys, supervision of ordinary and extraordinary maintenance work on the line, etc.);
- Agents assigned occasionally to switches;
- Surveillance agents employed occasionally.
These watches must be collected with form A.22, remaining in the possession of the Offices to which they belong.
Paragraph 2 states:
Supply on sale, with payment in installments, with a contribution from the Administration, to the following Agents:
- Captains, Chief Engineers, and Officers of ferryboats;
- Engineers, Assistant Engineers;
- Agents of the IES Offices and Special Offices responsible for the maintenance of signaling and safety systems;
- Agents of the Works Service assigned continuously to special services (attendance of P.L., protection of work sites, escorting trolleys, supervision of ordinary and extraordinary maintenance work on the line, etc.);
- Chief Switchmen, Chief Switchmen, Switch Team Leaders, Switch Team Leaders, Switchmen, Switchmen, Permanent Laborers, Switchmen, and Switchmen;
- Agents assigned continuously to escort trolleys or drive rail vehicles;
- Agents in charge of inspecting primary lines and authorized to issue or collect power line de-energization and de-energization forms.
During the Fascist period, pursuant to Circular No. 6 of the Official Bulletin of the State Railways No. 9 of February 28, 1929, pocket watches were also distributed to other railway personnel.
Supply of pocket watches to Foremen and Members of the Railway Militia performing guard duties
Having determined that it is appropriate to extend to Foremen and Members of the Railway Militia who perform the actual duties of Guard Chiefs, Deputy Guard Chiefs, and Guards be granted the right to receive a pocket watch with 1/5 of the cost borne by the Administration […] it is understood that requests for such watches will be forwarded by the Legion Commands to the “Command of the Railway Legions Group of the M.V.S.N.”
